March 22, 2010: Day 2
Today, the second day, was interesting. Unfortunately, I woke up to bad stomach cramps (from the food), which prevented me from traveling with the group to the batey. From the hospital, I had to go back to hotel, and it was really nice of Amy to come back with me (even though I didn't leave her much of a choice.) We got back to the hotel around 11 AM and sat on the lounge chairs by the pool for about an hour. By noon, after conversations about India, Indian food, Dominican politics, and more, I felt much better. Fortunately, Amy and I made the rest of our day productive by helping a group from the states to pack bags of food (beans, canned goods, and rice) for people in Haiti. They would be traveling to Haiti overnight, so I think we were of good help to them. We met some really nice people, and Amy and I were able to practice our spanish with victims of the earthquake in Haiti who had made it to La Romana and were also helping to pack food. Now, we are once again relaxing by the pool, except the rest of the group is also here. It sounds like they had a great time at the batey today, so I am really looking forward to going tomorrow. As I learned from me experiences today, a bad morning does not always result in a bad day.
